Safari transfers

Safari Transfers in Kenya

The safari starts the moment we close the car door — not when you reach the park gate. Our safari transfers are run in proper 4WD vehicles by chauffeurs who know the routes, the lodges, the flight schedules, and the small courtesies that make a long day comfortable. Whether you're connecting JKIA to Wilson for a charter to Maasai Mara, or running lodge-to-lodge across Amboseli and Samburu, the logistics stay invisible.

Routes we run

Maasai Mara (most commonly via Wilson flight, sometimes by road via Narok), Amboseli (Wilson flight or drive via Namanga), Samburu (flight from Wilson), Tsavo East and West (usually drive or Mombasa rail), Lake Naivasha and Lake Nakuru (direct drive). Less common routes like Meru, Aberdare, and Laikipia are covered on request.

Wilson Airport coordination

Wilson is the hub for domestic safari flights. Most of our safari transfers include a JKIA–Wilson connection on arrival (and reverse on departure). We coordinate both flight trackers and manage the luggage repack between international (usually 23kg) and domestic charter (often 15kg soft-bag) limits. Excess luggage can be stored at our office until you return.

Vehicle requirements

Not every Land Cruiser is safari-ready. Ours are equipped with pop-up roofs for game viewing, 4WD that works, high clearance for bad roads, and interiors clean enough for a ten-hour day. Standard safari transfer vehicle is the Toyota Prado for 1–3 passengers or Land Cruiser V8 for 3–4 passengers with larger luggage. Both are serviced on schedule and carry spare tyres, water, and basic first-aid.

What's included

Chauffeur-guide, fuel, water, snacks, Wi-Fi where the mobile network supports it, and photography stops at the driver's discretion (tea at a scenic escarpment, wildlife en route). Park entry fees, lodge accommodation, and internal game drives are not included by default — we can bundle those through partner operators on request.

Multi-day itineraries

Multi-day safari itineraries include driver accommodation (usually staff quarters at your lodge or nearby), fuel, and driver daily allowance. We coordinate with the safari operator on pickup times, check-in windows, and sundowner schedules. Itinerary is documented before deposit so nothing moves in quiet.

Driver-guides vs chauffeurs

A chauffeur drives. A driver-guide drives and narrates — tree names, wildlife behaviour, tribal history, landscape context. For first-time safari travellers, we recommend a driver-guide; for repeat visitors who have their own guide at the lodge, a chauffeur is sufficient. Both standards are available, priced accordingly.

Frequently asked questions

Should I fly JKIA–Wilson or drive to the safari?
Most safari itineraries fly Wilson–Maasai Mara or Wilson–Amboseli and return — it saves a full day versus driving and the small charter flights are part of the experience. Driving makes sense for Naivasha, Nakuru, and Tsavo, where flights are less practical or more expensive. We'll recommend based on your itinerary.
Are your safari vehicles game-drive capable?
Our transfer vehicles are not the specialised open-sided safari vehicles used for in-park game drives. For in-park drives, we partner with lodges that provide those. Our transfer vehicles with pop-up roofs do allow roadside wildlife viewing en route.
What about luggage limits on safari charter flights?
Domestic safari charters typically cap at 15kg in soft bags. We handle the luggage repack between your international arrival and the charter departure. Excess luggage can be stored at our Nairobi office until you return.
Is overnight driver accommodation included?
Multi-day itineraries include driver accommodation (typically staff quarters at your lodge, or nearby guesthouse), fuel, and driver daily allowance. These are bundled into the total quote, not added separately at the end.
Is fuel included?
Yes. Safari transfer quotes are all-inclusive — fuel, driver, vehicle. No top-ups at the pump, no surprise fuel surcharges at the end.
Can you handle the Maasai Mara road route?
Yes — via Narok. It is a six-to-eight-hour drive each way and mostly tarmac with a final rough section. We use the V8 or Prado for this route and recommend it for travellers who want to see the landscape between Nairobi and the Mara rather than flying over it.
Do you coordinate with specific safari operators?
Yes. We work with the major operators (AirKenya, Safarilink, Governor's Aviation, Asilia, &Beyond, Angama, Elewana, and independents) routinely and know their check-in protocols, drop-off points, and internal policies.
